Daniel Gianotti, 22, of Elmont, was arrested on Tuesday, March 10, for the crash that occurred on Sat., Feb. 22, in Elmont, said the Nassau County Police.
According to detectives, a 41-year-old woman was attempting to cross the Hempstead Turnpike to Evans Avenue, when she was was struck by a gray 2012 Honda Civic that was making a left turn from Hempstead Turnpike onto Evans Avenue.
The driver, later identified as Gianotti, allegedly fled the scene without attempting to identify himself, Nassau County Police said.
The victim sustained serious physical injuries to her head and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Following an investigation, Gianotti was identified and arrested at his home without incident, police said.
Gianotti was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious injuries and tampering with evidence.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, March 23.
